In American Conquest, some units take a salary for their service that gradually depletes the player's amount of gold. Units that require pay are Fusiliers (Russia excluded), all Dragoons, all Officers, US-Militiamen and the Haida Chief.
The amount of gold required is measured in the number of units, a single gold mining peasant can entertain. Alternatively, with some native factions, it is measured in how many units a single Tradingpost can entertain.
When reaching a gold amount of zero, all of the player's Fusiliers with the exception of British and US-Fusiliers commit Treason and switch over to the native/wildlife AI.
